This website is maintained by a grassroots group of Salt Spring residents who have become increasingly concerned and alarmed about the industrialization of the waters between our islands, particularly by freighters and oil tankers.
We are volunteers, not a company or political group. We do not receive commercial benefits for doing this.
We care about our island and the surrounding waters. We wish to keep this place special, and an oasis close to urban centres.
Our group has joined forces and become a member of the 'South Coast Ship Watch Alliance', a coalition of community groups in the Southern Gulf Islands and adjacent Vancouver Island opposing anchorages for large sea-going vessels in our pristine waters (website: https://nofreighteranchorages.ca).
